Incorporating input and feedback from the discussion this week, complete the research design template for your proposed quantitative study.  Expand your outline from the discussion to include more detail for each of the 14 elements in the template.  You should begin including supporting references for the various sections, particularly the "Background" and "Rationale" sections.  Here you will need to identify existing research that supports the need for your study.  Such research must be selected from peer-reviewed, academic sources (this is similar to the literature review process). 

You may submit your expanded outline in the table format provided in the template.  This will be the foundation for the "mini-proposal" that you will submit in week 4 (which will be in APA narrative format).

Module 4.

Using your outline from the “Research Design Template” covered in Unit 2, prepare a “mini” quantitative research proposal.  This proposal should essentially be an expansion of your research design focus from the last few weeks converted into a narrative format.  For this course, the research design and methodology should be quantitative in nature. (There is a separate course dedicated to qualitative research in the program).

The Unit 4 course materials include two additional documents that will help with this assignment.  First, the “Dissertation Outline” contains all the sections (and subsections) required in a DBA dissertation.  The first three “chapters” in the outline form the dissertation “proposal” and serve as the foundational research document that must be approved by the committee prior to gathering data, conducting research and completing the dissertation (chapters 4-5).  This course assignment is a foundational exercise for designing a research study that will help once you enter the dissertation phase later in the program. The second document in the Unit 4 readings is the “DBA Dissertation Formatting Template” and will help you with the correct layout and formatting for a research proposal.

For this assignment your “mini-proposal” should include a condensed version of the following elements from the dissertation outline document; Section 1, items a-g, Section 1, item k(i), Section 3, items b-h (overviews only). The mini-proposal should be approximately 10-12 pages in length (not including cover page, TOC, and references).  Submit your assignment to this dropbox.

Module 5 – Instructions

Navigate to the U.S. Government website for open data (Data.gov).  Identify an open access dataset relevant to your own research interests.  Prepare a 500-word (minimum) narrative essay, in APA format, describing the dataset and how it might be used to support your proposed research topic.  Identify the relevant data points and variables that might be included in your proposal to justify your intended "new" research.  Submit both your narrative essay and selected dataset to the assignment dropbox.
