The U.S. Department of Agriculture compiles information on acreage, production, and value of potatoes and publishes its findings in Agricultural Statistics. Potato yield is measured in hundreds of pounds per acre. A random sample of 40 one-acre plots of potatoes from Idaho and a random sample of 32 one-acre plots of potatoes from Nevada gave the following yields. Let ì1 = mean potato yield for Idaho, and let ì2 = mean potato yield for Nevada (measured in hundreds of pounds per acre). Estimate the difference in average yields for Nevada and Idaho with a 95% confidence interval for ì1 ! ì2. Interpret.
