communication research Discussion 14

After completing the previous Resource: Inferential Statistics, address the following questions in your post (2 points per question):

  1. Which tests did you practice experimenting with in the QuickCalcs?  As you plugged in different numbers, did you learn anything new about inferential statistics, or did anything that had previously confused you suddenly "click?" If so, what was it?
  2. What is the danger of presuming that a correlation equals causation?  Can you think of an example of a correlation between two variables, in which it would be problematic to assume that a correlation equals causation?
  3. Is there anything that is still confusing to you about how inferential statistics are determined or used? Provide any lingering questions or thoughts on this topic.

Then, come back to this discussion later and read through your classmates’ responses.  Post a thoughtful reply to two of them (2 points per reply).

Discussion Requirements:

  • Post your response here by 11:59 pm EST on Friday, December 2nd
  • Post a thoughtful reply to two classmates by 11:59 pm EST on Sunday, December 4th
